Our Proverbs 19 reading for today contains a verse that explains the reason for the series that we are starting on Easter Sunday:  “Those who are kind to the poor lend to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done” (verse 17).  For Easter, we will be inviting people to “Start…Following Christ,” a life that begins with our acceptance of Him as Savior and Lord, that leads to a life living out His concerns and passions for our world.  This means active involvement in responding to the neediest around us.  When we do that, we do it not only for the Lord, but also to the Lord.  That action God promises to reward.  This means that as our eyes are open to the needy around us, and as our hearts and hands respond to those needs, we can expect God’s reward in our lives.  That might just be the “true living” which Jesus promises to His people!
