Library News…(January 17, 2012)

It looks like we may finally be having winter.  What’s better than cozying up in a comfortable chair with a good book that you’ve checked out from our SBC Library?!  We’ve purchased or been given a lot of new titles.  Some of these are on the counter in the library.

Norman Geisler (relative to our Martin Geisler?) has asked “why is there suffering in the world? The problem of evil is perhaps the most difficult question a Christian must face.”  In If God, Why Evil?, Geisler “answers this tough question–and more–with logic and scriptural truths to support his answers. . . All this adds up to comforting news for believers–by His very nature God is an omnipotent and loving being who will vanquish all evil–in His time, not ours.”

Embraced By The Spirit is Charles R. Swindoll’s offering for whenever you “feel spiritually empty, thirsting for a closer relationship with God. . . Drawing on wisdom from his own 50-year spiritual journey, he reveals vital dimensions of the Holy Spirit you may have overlooked so you can enjoy a more dynamic relationship with God.”

“Jesus has come; anything can happen now.  Mark wants us to see that the coming of Jesus calls for decisive action.  Jesus is seen as a man of action, moving quickly and decisively from event to event.  There is relatively little teaching in the Gospel of Mark–mainly, we see Jesus doing.  Therefore we need to respond actively.  We can’t remain neutral.  We may not sit and reflect and find excuses for not changing our lives now.” –from King’s Cross: The Story of the World in The Life of Jesus by Timothy Keller.  We’ve had this book for a few months, but it deserves to be explored.

We’ve also added a few fiction titles such as The Mercy by Beverly Lewis, Book 3 in the Rose Trilogy; Learning by Karen Kingsbury, Book 2 in the Bailey Flanigan Series, as well as Book 3, Loving.  Also for those drawn to techno-thrillers, we have two Steven James novels which are part of the Patrick Bowers thrillers.

Thanks for causing us to be involved in your lives by the work we do every week on Tuesday mornings.  Please come in and see us, and offer any suggestions for us to better meet your needs.  We are still looking to add to our reserve staff in case of retirement or illness.
