Philippines Ministry Clothing Drive

Sierra Bible Church will be hosting a clothing drive to support our Philippines Ministry on three consecutive Sundays:  April 21st, April 28th and May 5th from 8:00am to 12:30pm.  Tables to accept drop-off donations will be set up in front of the Family Life Center on the church campus.

Tim and Kathy Atchley, who operate Seeds of Dignity Ministries, are looking for summer-type clothing for men, women and children. Lightweight, gently-used clothing sized small to large is preferred. T-shirts (both long and short-sleeved), pants, jeans, shorts, blouses, dresses, and shoes of any kind are needed.  The clothing collected will be shipped to the island of Mindanao in the Philippines to aide and support orphanages, villagers who live in less than poverty, and Christian workers.

Throughout each year, Seeds of Dignity Ministry collects clothing, shoes, books, donations, toys (without batteries), vitamins and medicine to send to the Philippines.  Over ten boxes of supplies are sent each month.  These donations reach not only the poor and needy, but also over 250 Pastors and Christian medical workers that are in as much need as the villagers.

As a result of poor nutrition, there is much disease on Mindanao, the second largest island in the Philippines. Recently, a local donation of $500 from the Lions Club was able to furnish the medical clinic in the village of Balak Balak with medicine, medical supplies and vitamins equivalent to $8,000 US dollars, providing over 150 villagers with much-needed medical and dental care.

In October of each year, Tim and Kathy, along with a team of volunteers, travel to the island of Mindanao to work alongside twenty-two other Christian organizations at the medical clinic in Balak Balak.  The team also distributes clothing and ministers to the needy in the poor villages. The team visits the men in prison, reading the Bible, singing worship songs and encouraging these men while sharing the love of Jesus. This year, the team will make their way to Mindanao on October 16-30 to serve others and bring the love of Christ to those that are suffering.

When asked what led them to form this ministry, the Atchley’s said, “We do not want to waste these years that God has given us.” Their desire is to share Christ and make a difference now and for eternity.

If you would like to get involved, or make a tax deductible donation to the Atchley’s 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, please contact Tim Atchley (586-2473).
