An odd blessing…
In a world so filled with let downs and earthquakes it can, at times, feel as if God’s grace has been withdrawn. It seems this way at least until we ‘open our eyes.’ It was in a moment of contemplation early this morning…thinking through and praying for the many in Haiti, wondering about fitting into my day that which I had planned, pondering how many things I had hoped for that would not see the light of day…that I was struck with a bit of morning light. ‘OPEN YOUR EYES. Will you be of little faith or big faith? Will you see a little God with many problems, or a big God with many solutions?’ I was reminded that I had seen God’s grace in some dark places…the Stanford Cancer Center, the middle of Russia, in my failures…and I would see it again and again and again. Maybe God’s grace has not been withdrawn as much as my eyes simply closed to its beauty and light.
As I was dropping Kaylin off for another day of 2nd grade, I reminded her to ‘be a light for Jesus and have a great day.’ She turned to me, amidst the rain and wind and said, ‘daddy, you know I will…and I love you.’ Then, as amazing as this sounds, she turned, on her own two beautiful legs and ran off. Ran off to school. To a teacher that loves her. With friends that she likes. With a stomach that is full and a lunch box full of healthy favorites. Ahhhh…God’s grace… Might we live this day with eyes open to God and his solutions. When we are to be that very solution, may we step into His plan with passion and grace and love.
