Meet Mr. Bryan!
You know him. You love him. You've felt small standing beside him. You've heard him sing. It's the ONE. THE ONLY ... *drum roll* Bryan Stanton.
1. How long have you been a part of the SBC family?
I first came to SBC in the summer of 2020. Mid July we came to our first service outdoors on the lawn.
2. When you were a young lad, what did you think you'd be when you grew up?
I always thought I’d make a career in the military, the Army specifically. I had signed papers and was prepping to be sent off to basic. Plans changed drastically when my girlfriend (now my wife) became very sick and so I decided to stay, and out of that the Lord intervened in ways we couldn't have imagined.
3. Did you make any New Years resolutions for 2022? Mind sharing?
Yeah! Too many to count lol, but the big ones seem to be the same every year. Grow in my relationship with Jesus, and learn how to better lead by serving.
4. Let's say you could time travel. Where and in what time era would we find you today?
This is a good one! I think my favorite era is the early 1800’s. From reading some of the authors of that time, everything just seemed to move much slower, and people were very intentional about what they said, what they meant, and how they treated one another. Probably right after the Napoleonic wars in England.
5. Being the Worship Pastor here, I'm guessing your musical influences range widely. If you could record an album with any 2 singer/ songwriters, who would they be?
So hard to choose just two! But if I had to I think it would be Jeremy Riddle and Brandon Lake. Not just because of their influence in the worship music industry, but more so because of their heart posture towards the Lord.
6. Some may not know that you also get to work alongside of your lovely Bride, Comfort. We know the list is long, but can you tell us your top 4 favorite things about working with her?
Well I would definitely put working towards the same goal in ministry as number 1.
She has a very good aesthetic eye, so her input on ideas that I’m working on are essential.
Her tenacity to take on a project head on, she has a way of figuring things out and presenting them in a way that really moves the needle for the church.
Last but certainly not least is her Joy. She brings a vibrant presence to the office that just kind of pulls you in and gets you engaged.
7. Are you currently reading any books you'd like to recommend?
Yes! Number one on the list is the Bible, just the whole thing. (I say this snickering of course) lol. But in all seriousness there are three on my desk now that I love.
The worship Architect. By Constance M. Cherry
Knowing God. By J.I. Packer
And How to be rich. By Andy Stanley
There you have it! Did anyone guess his time travel would be to just after the Napoleonic era? Me neither. Fascinating. We hope you learned more about this man who leads us into worship every Sunday. Be sure to say hi next time you see him!
