Book Recommendation: Risen Motherhood
Are you ready for some real talk this afternoon? Ok, buckle up. I nearly lost my ever-loving mind this morning. Want to know why? Over my children not doing their morning chores and having lost an earring, which my oldest later found in their bathroom garbage. Don't ask. There is literally no reason for how it ended up in the garbage. It was the repetitive asking and asking with no turn around that twisted my nerve. The drive to school was nearly quiet. My drive to the church office was again, nearly quiet. The unsettling in my soul, though I knew it would pass, was nevertheless burdensome.
As the staff gathered for our morning prayer time, Pastor Kyle, filled us in on the junior high group gathering last night and shared how they discussed grief as many of those precious students are grieving the death of one of our own. Immediately I thought of that mother, who would give anything, to hold her girl again and I felt silly over a garbage earring and undone chores. Are those chores important? Obviously. Positive and responsible instruction always is. But I began questioning why I allow the little things to build up in me and what a better response should be.
Welcome to motherhood, my friends. A title that takes you from zero to one billion in a matter of seconds. If you're reading this and you're a dad, please don't feel left out. Parenthood is both the greatest and most challenging work but I don't know what it's like to be a dad so I'm speaking from the vantage point of a mother.
Connecting with fellow moms is a pure joy and with Mother's Day coming up, we wanted to send a wonderful resource your way. How do you connect God's word to your parenting? Risen Motherhood by Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler, helps mothers connect God's word to the many issues we deal with on a regular basis. I would highly recommend this for yourself and any mom you know who could use some hope as she fights the good fight.
